One
of the most important factors when a recruiter is deciding
whether or not you are a good prospect for his or her
team is for them to have a chance to see you play/compete
with their own eyes. A well-prepared college recruiting
video is of tremendous value in helping you to be
successfully recruited. Similarly, the absence of a quality
video can be highly detrimental to your efforts.
|
|
|
| There
are, however, exceptions to this general rule. In the sports
of swimming, track, and cross-country, a video does not
have the same importance. In these sports, it is mainly
a matter of how fast you can go from point A to point B. |
|
| The
value of other positive athletic attributes that you may
display to the recruiters fades quickly when compared to
that of a good video. The fact that your Athletic Profile
shows some impressive statistics will not necessarily convince
a coach that you are an exceptional recruit. Think about
it. The mere fact that you have scored a lot of points or
goals in your sport, thrown or received a lot of touchdown
passes, or had a record-setting number of assists will not,
in and of itself, make you a highly sought-after recruit.
The issue is, of course, the level of competition you played
against. |
|
| And,
while making the All Conference team is great, a very talented
athlete may be left off because he or she was on a team
that had a losing season. |
|
| The
same principle applies to letters of recommendation or referrals
by alumni, etc. While these are certainly good to have,
and may motivate a coach to look at you twice, or even three
times, the final decision will be based upon a coach's evaluation
when they have the opportunity to personally observe your
performance. |
|
| Another
challenge in getting recruited is distance.
If you live in California and are interested in a college
in New York, the coach may or may not have a travel budget
that allows him to come to California to see you
play. And, if he cannot see you compete, your chances of
being actively recruited and receiving an offer from that
coach will drop significantly. |
|
| So,
how do you overcome these problems? Simple. The magic of
VIDEO! It has an incredible power!! Every year, the
College Recruiting Group produces videos for athletes
in California and sends them to the East Coast or other
parts of the country for college coaches to review. And,
every year, these athletes will receive scholarship offers,
many times valued at $50,000 to $100,000 or more, from coaches
who never see them play in person, but only watched them
in one of our videos. |
|
| Which
brings us to another crucial point . . . the video must
be filmed and edited properly to be effective. Too many
times, well-intentioned parents or relatives will take videos
of their sons or daughters and send them to coaches, only
to be suddenly dropped from consideration as a recruit.
Why? It is usually because a coach is not able to adequately
view and evaluate the featured athlete. The videos must
be put together a certain way to accommodate the viewing
needs of a coach for evaluation purposes. As a result of
surveys we have taken from college coaches at all levels,
we have learned specifically what they want to see, how
much of it they want to see, from what angle they want to
see it, and so on. |
|
| Producing
a video for your athlete is one of the most valuable services
the College Recruiting Group can provide to a family.
Obviously, the prices vary significantly depending on the
sport, your location, the amount of footage that has to
be shot, etc. Please contact us if you would like to discuss
arrangements for us to produce a video for your athlete. |
|
| To
provide another option, the College Recruiting Group
is now in the process of putting together a two-volume instructional
video set entitled "How To Produce Your Own College Recruiting
Video." Let us know if you are interested in acquiring
a copy of this video set. Or, as with many of our other
products, it can be extremely beneficial to numerous athletes
if your club team, high school athletic department, or Guidance
Department acquires these products and then shares them
with interested athletes, year after year. |

| If
you would like to schedule a College Recruiting Video, please
feel free to contact
us
so that we may discuss the project's timeline. |
